I've been using GTD since January 2001, when Getting Things Done by David Allen was first published and available on Amazon books. For about a week I used paper. Then I switched to FileMaker for several years. For the last six or seven years I have been using Tinderbox, and it has been by far the most useful tool for managing my life that I could possibly conceive. The key is prototypes. Each context in my system is a prototype, so when I create a next action I merely have to assign an appropriate prototype of the context to enable to an agent to gather all the tasks with a given context into a list. A project prototype is a container to contain next actions. The text attribute of a project note I use to describe the project and also contains any additional text that I choose. The flexibility of the platform and the ability to create new prototypes makes it possible for me to adapt the basic scheme to a number of different types of tasks that I have been required to do over the years.
The app acts as a personal content assistant giving you the tools you need to discover connections and relationships between your notes that you might otherwise miss. Best of all, Tinderbox adapts to the way you work. You can use mind maps with shapes, colors, and links to surface connections between ideas, or one of many other tools like outlines, word clouds, timelines, and dashboards. Each is a powerful way to gain new insights and perspectives on your ideas.

I excitedly purchased this application sometime around late 2004, early 2005. At the time Tinderbox proved to be a useful tool. Fast forward some three and a half years and the only sizable change is the price. The current version of Tinderbox isn't worth the upgrade amount much less the sticker price. Tinderbox has a knack for making less progress than a slippery snake on an ice rink.
